Maya 300, another expensive electric-drive car consumers might want(June 26) - Another electric car entry was unveiled this week, with battery maker Electrovaya and ExxonMobil teaming up to develop an urban electric car called the Maya 300. It will travel up to 120 miles on one full charge, can carry four people and, the companies say, drives like a traditional gas-powered car. Complete Story
   
First Chevy Volt prototype rolls out
(June 26) - If you're like us, you're eagerly anticipating the delivery of the Chevy Volt electric car. That day just got a little more real when the first preproduction prototype rolled out of the General Motors Operations Center in Warren, Michigan. Feds lend Tesla $465 million to build electric car
(June 25) -The Obama Administration will lend Tesla Motors $465 million to build an electric sedan and the battery packs needed to propel it. It's one of three loans totaling almost $8 billion that the Department of Energy awarded Tuesday to spur the development of fuel-efficient vehicles. Complete Story
 
Nissan will unveil electric car prototype in August(June 24) -The real car - touted as a medium size five door powered with lithium-ion batteries - will make its debut until October, at the Tokyo motor show. On August 2, Nissan will also open its headquarters in Yokohama, Japan. Production of the electric vehicle will begin in winter 2010 at the company's Oppama plant in Japan with initial volumes of about 50,000 units, the site reported. Nissan plans to sell its first zero-emission cars in the U.S. and Japan in 2010. Complete Story

Andrew Carnegie’s Electric Cars(June 23) - “Designed by Whitfield & King, the completed garage had space for five electric cars, with three charging panels, and a lift at the rear to allow the removal and replacement of the batteries,” wrote Mr. Gray. “The 1910 census found eight people living there, including a footman and four chauffeurs. Chevy Volts to be built and sold in China(June 23) - General Motors will build the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car in China beginning in 2011 as part of the automaker's plan to roll out its revolutionary technology in a wide variety of vehicles around the world, the newsletter AutoBeat Asia reports.All Volts built in China are to be sold there. New Electric Car Coming to California in 2010: the CODA Sedan(June 23) - On Wednesday nascent auto-maker CODA announced a new electric car available in California in fall 2010. The fully electric sedan will have a range of 90-100 miles on a fully-charged battery. Complete Story
 
BYD's F3DM Electric Sedan Will Go on Sale in China, but the West Will Have to Wait
(June 19) -  decade ago China's largest rechargeable battery maker wasn't even in the car business. But BYD made a splash in the green auto sector when, at the height of American carmakers' struggles to bring a viable electric vehicle to market, the company coolly released the F3DM at a price just under $22,000; that is, for far less than American carmakers dreamed of pricing their next-gen autos. Myers Motors in Tallmadge gets financial boost with new NmG electric car(June 22) - Myers Motors, a Tallmadge company that makes three-wheel electric cars, is getting fresh cash and business advice in hopes of expanding its business. JumpStart Inc., a Cleveland nonprofit that assists startup companies, is investing $250,000 in Myers to help the company finish design and engineering work on a two-seat version of its NmG (no more gas) vehicle. V-Vehicle: An Auto Start-Up From T. Boone Pickens and Kleiner Perkins(June 19) - What do you get when you create a company backed by green venture capitalists Kleiner Perkins and former Texas oil magnate T. Boone Pickens? V-Vehicle Co., a mysterious new auto company that just emerged from stealth mode after four years in existence. Former Oracle Corp. executive Frank Varasano founded VVC and is its CEO. Jaguar to Build Electric Car in 2011(June 19) - Jaguar has an electric vehicle, the XE roadster - a two-seat convertible, scheduled for introduction at the Geneva show in 2011. The XE roadster will come with an optional range-extended electric drive-train, which is similar to the Chevy Volt. Complete Story

Five More Electric Cars from Mitsubishi(June 18) - Mitsubishi announced earlier this month that its i-MiEV electric car would cost $45,660, and Wheels readers raised their eyebrows at the high price for the tiny car. Koenigsegg Quant 170mph solar electric car headed for production?(June 18) - The thought of Swedish uber-car manufacturer Koenigsegg ever actually putting their Quant concept car into production was a laughable joke back when they revealed it in March.  The solar electric vehicle was billed as a “car of the future” designed to showcase NLV Solar’s nifty photovoltaic and accumulator tech; now, according to one Koenigsegg insider, the firm intends to put the Quant into limited production. Zenn CEO reveals details of EEStor's progress(June 6) - Zenn Motor plans to incorporate ultracapacitors from stealthy EEStor into full-speed electric vehicles starting in 2010. 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid Coaches For Better Mileage(June 6) - The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid has achieved many milestones since the hybrid car was released. Ford Fusion does have the ability to drive up to 1,445 miles on one tank of gasoline. What the Electric Coda Sedan Says About the Future of EVs and China(June 6) - The electric Coda Automotive sedan, unveiled yesterday as the first highway-capable model from low-speed electric vehicle startup Miles EV’s new spinoff, isn’t just “made in China.” Companies based in China, including Hafei Motor and Lishen, have been working with Santa Monica, Calif.-based Miles throughout the development of the car, which is set to carry a $45,000 price tag when it rolls out next year in California. Tesla to open seven showrooms(June 5) -Tesla Motors, the San Carlos-based electric car maker, said Friday it will open seven sales and service centers in upcoming weeks across the United States and Europe.Stores in New York, Seattle and Chicago will open in late June, followed by Miami.  Complete Story

Subaru to sell electric Stella next month(June 4) - The Stella EV stores electricity in a lithium ion battery pack, powering a 47 kilowatt motor. Range is only about 56 miles, with a top speed of 62 mph. Subaru claims a recharge time of 15 minutes at a quick charging station, or 5 hours at a 200 volt AC outlet, which are typical numbers for current technology. Complete Story

Electric car to hit roads in Sept: Ratan Tata(June 4) -  Indian conglomerate Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata has said that Tata Motors will have an electric car in the market by September this year. "We will have an electric car in the market in September," Tata was quoted as saying by Cornell University on its micro-blogging feed on Twitter. Tata is also a Cornell trustee. Complete Story

Who is Kleiner Perkins' New Electric Car Company?(June 1) - Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers is one of the most renowned venture outfits in the world, so when they make a new investment, it’s usually worth a look. Daimler grabs Tesla stake in electric-car push(June 1) - The two companies last year announced that Tesla would supply the lithium ion battery for the Electric Smart EV, a small town car. Telsa designs and makes the packs using battery cells used in consumer electronics.  Complete Story  

Zero Pollution Motors plans 2011 U.S. launch for 106mpg air-powered car(June 1) - While major auto manufacturers race to bring new electric and hybrid cars to market, other companies are looking at alternatives to electricity - including using air to power cars. The idea of an air-powered car is nothing new, and companies have been touting the technology for the past few years but for now not much has emerged in the way of a production model, largely due to flaws with the design of the vehicles.
