Ford preparing for a jolt to the car market(May 19) -
Ford Motor, says Executive Chairman Bill Ford, is on the
cusp of launching an entire line of electric cars globally
and by 2020 about one-quarter of Ford’s global fleet will be
electrified in one way or another. Ford Motor will start
this year “with an all-electric Ford Focus, followed by a
plug-in hybrid and an all-electric version of the company's
new global C-MAX vehicle, a sporty five-seater.

is investigating ways of differentiating the power delivery
of electric powertrains in an effort to produce a more
Porsche-like driving experience, and to distinguish the

led the development of the just-introduced Panamera Hybrid.

Formula 1 EV is "World's Fastest" Electric Racing Car(May
19) - This joint project came from two French companies, FCI
and Formulec, who gathered scores of engineers from the
Formula 1 field to build this F1 EV. This vehicle takes less
than 3 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph, and has an
astonishing top speed of over 155 mph. That's way, way
faster than the Nissan Leaf NISMO RC all-electric race car
prototype. Depending on which metric you are comparing, that
makes it the fastest "electric racing car" in the world.
This F1 EV will tour the world in 2011 before Formulec sets
up an all-electric F1 racing series in 2012. Color me
excited.

Electric Car Goes Over 200 Miles On One Charge(May
19) - Japanese vehicle designer SIM-Drive unveiled an
electric car it claims can travel more than 200 miles on a
single charge, reports AFP. Company officials on Wednesday
said they hoped to put the car on the market by 2013, but
were unable to give a projected cost. They said the
four-passenger “SIM-LEI” has motors in each wheel and has an
ultra-light frame, allowing for 207 miles of motoring before
the battery needs recharging.

Aptera Ditches San Diego As Home of Electric Car
Factory, Blames Economics(May 19) - In its latest
newsletter to customers, Aptera has detailed not its rollout
plans, but a surprise manufacturing move away from its San
Diego home while its main offices are destined to stay,
moving into offices in Carlsbad. The Oceanside warehouse
originally earmarked as the Aptera factory will soon end its
lease, leaving Aptera just its corporate headquarters in San
Diego.
