First all-electric Coda sedan rolls off assembly line(March 14) - The first all-electric Coda sedan rolled off the assembly line in Benicia, Calif., on Monday, marking a big day for the privately held Los Angeles company. Coda Automotive Inc. manufactures most of the vehicle's battery system and body in China. The parts are then shipped to the San Francisco Bay Area port city of Benicia for final assembly. Ronald Reagan: Father Of The Modern Electric Car?
(March 14) - Boiled down to its basics, the argument says that by signing legislation to create the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in 1967, while he was governor of that state, Reagan launched the governmental body that would later mandate the sale of zero-emission vehicles--first in the late 1990s and again starting this year. (March 1) - Pop singer surprised by manager with a $100K all-electric Fisker Karma while appearing on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show.'Braun told Bieber on the show, “You work really really hard. I always yell at you: Don’t get anything flashy. You know, we’re not about that. Be humble, be humble and I kind of broke my own rule. ... Nissan Leaf Becomes First Electric Car Available For Order In All U.S. Markets
(February 29) - Beginning tomorrow, drivers across the country will have their first opportunity to order their Nissan LEAF, as Nissan North America Inc. (NNA) expands availability for all U.S. markets, nationwide. This new launch phase means residents of 21 new states will be able to select and order a 2012 Nissan LEAF. Mitsubishi’s electric car all set for Colorado climb
(February 29) - Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will enter the i-MiEV Prototype in the 2012 edition (July 8) of the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb held annually in Colorado in the United States. The i-MiEV Prototype is a prototype based on the MMC’s all-electric i-MiEV model, the first 100% electric vehicle (EV) to go into mass production and is already on the road in Japan, Europe and North America, with plans to expand to other markets. Honda’s Going Electric-Motorcycle Racing
(February 18) - Honda becomes the first major manufacturer to enter the electric racing fray when its close partner Mugen enters an all-new electric motorcycle in the Isle of Man TT Zero this summer. Electric Car Rebates Would Increase To $10000 Under Obama Budget

Electric car maker Tesla: No profits until 2013
(February 18) - On the heels of Tesla's unveiling of its Model X electric crossover last week, the fledgling automaker released financial results yesterday that show continued losses, but lots of hope. The company says it doesn't expect to be profitable until 2013. It says in a letter to investors that it lost $81.5 million in the last quarter of 2011. Complete Story  
 
Fisker Karma: The World's Most Interesting Car(February 17) - This car might be your worst nightmare. A plug-in hybrid electric luxury sedan that costs more than $100,000, from a California company—Orange County, but still—which has borrowed $169 million from taxpayers as part of the Department of Energy's advanced-vehicle-technology loan program; a car built not in the heartland but the socialist paradise of Finland; a car that, with the arithmetic all in, averages 52 mpg-e (that's the EPA's metric for plug-in hybrid EVs), which means that for all its fancy-dancy lithium-iron-phosphate star drive, it gets about the same fuel economy as a conventional Prius hybrid. Mercedes teams up with Tesla for a new electric car
(February 17) - For the new Mercedes model, Tesla will provide the battery packs, motor, gearbox, inverter and all related software. It will start to record sales for the contract starting in the second quarter. Mercedes has not released details about the new vehicle. Electric Car Tops Out Greenest Vehicle List
(February 9) - For the first time in the 12 year history of the Greencars.org Greenest Vehicle List, an electric vehicle has topped the list, based on the 14th annual comprehensive environmental rankings provided by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). The Mitsubishi i-MIEV battery electric vehicle claimed the top spot from the Honda Civic Natural Gas which, up until this year, had held the top spot for 8 years running. The i-MIEV scored a high score of 58, the highest Green Score ever awarded since the ACEEE rankings were started back in 1998. Complete Story

Electric car maker Fisker: Layoffs in Delaware and California
(February 7) -Fisker Automotive, an electric car maker that received a half-billion-dollar loan from the federal government, said Monday that it has laid off workers in Delaware and California. The layoffs include 26 workers at a former General Motors plant in Wilmington that Fisker is retooling to manufacture its Nina plug-in hybrid sedan. Another 40 contractors and employees who were working in design and development of Fisker's Karma luxury car in Anaheim, Calif., also have been cut. Complete Story
  
Plug In America: California Created Giant Loophole in New Electric Car Rule
(January 31) - Many environmentalists and electric car fans cheered last week when California adopted new rules that require 15 percent of all cars sold in the state to be electric, plug-in hybrid, or hydrogen-powered by 2025. Even automakers were onboard. But the devil is in the details, and some plug-in car advocates believe the California Air Resources Board simultaneously engineered a positive spin on the rules—while creating a giant loophole allowing more modest gains in electric car adoption. Agency Ends Chevy Volt Fire Probe
(January 23) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed its investigation into whether the Chevy Volt poses a fire risk after an accident. The agency said it found no evidence of a "defect trend" with the Chevy Volt and concluded that recent changes made to the electric car by General Motors "reduce the potential for battery intrusion resulting from side impacts." AC Propulsion
AC Propulsion builds the 2010 electric car called the eBox by converting a Scion xB 5-speed to electric power. The gasoline Scion xB costs less than $15,000 well-equipped (very reasonable considering the 2012 Scion tC starts at $19,305) and weighs less than 2400 pounds.

American Electric
Kurrent is a neighborhood vehicle (NV), which means it has four wheels and weighs less than 2500 lbs. It runs on the same standard electricity you use to operate your household appliances. Think of it as juice to go. Kurrent is not just a new car – it’s a whole new way to get where you’re going.Kurrent, when fully charged, will travel 35-40 miles at a constant speed of 25 miles per hour.

Arcimoto Pulse
The Arcimoto Pulse has 100% electric drivetrain, three-wheeled tandem design, multiple range options, multiple exterior and interior options including A/C, stereo, power locks/windows, GPS. Range 40-100 miles. Price: $17,000.


 

Bigman Electric Vehicle
"Bigman" is a five passenger zero-emissions electric vehicle traveling up to 25 miles per hour.  Its DC 48 Volt connected to a standard 110 outlet charger, requires a charging time of only 10 hours and zooms up to 75 miles between charges - a  proven test performance.

BYD e6 Electric Car
The pure-electric e6 features BYD's revolutionary battery technology - what we call the Fe battery. The range per charge is expected to be a remarkable 250 miles. Performance is surprisingly brisk, with 0-60mph acceleration in less than 8 seconds and a projected top speed of 100mph.

Ford Electric Transit
If an electric passenger car is good, an electric people mover is even better. Ford Motor Company on Monday announced plans to bring an all-electric version of the 2010 Transit Connect to the North American market in addition to its 2.0 liter gasoline-powered model.
